Hawai‘i County Police Department Area II Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) detectives are investigating a structure fire that killed an elderly man. On Sunday, January 7, HPD and HFD personnel were dispatched to a structure fire at a Hawaii Ocean View Estate subdivision residence and determined that an elderly man who lived at the residence was unaccounted for. After firefighters extinguished the flames, which engulfed the entire structure, a severely burnt body was discovered. The identity of the victim and the cause of the fire are still under investigation. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the victim’s exact cause of death. The structure and contents, which had an estimated value of $150,000, were a total loss.
