Hawaiʻi County officials were alerted of an email inviting individuals experiencing homelessness to stay at an address in the Hilo district evenings between August 14-18. Investigators determined the address provided in the email was the personal residence of Mayor Mitch Roth. The email falsely claims individuals are welcome to stay and utilize resources at the residence without needing to knock.  Officers were dispatched to the Mayor’s residence, while an active investigation is underway.
