44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona was charged with robbery and theft following a recent bank robbery in downtown Kona.

Last Thursday, Kona patrol officers responded to a report of an active robbery at a bank on Palani Road and determined that a male suspect had entered the establishment and produced a note demanding money. He then fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one in the bank was physically injured.

After further investigation, police identified Nicholson who was located nearby and placed under arrest.

The Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued the investigation and recovered more than $2,800 in US currency after executing a search warrant on a backpack Nicholson had in his possession during the incident.

After conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, police charged Nicholson with:

  • Second-degree robbery
  • Second-degree theft
  • an outstanding bench warrant

His total bail was set at $125,000.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information relative to this investigation to call Detective Len Hamakado of the Area II Criminal Investigation Section at (808) 326-4646, ext. 224, or via email at len.hamakado@hawaiicounty.gov.
