A free tire collection event will be held tomorrow at the Kea’au Middle School parking lot between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The event, which was made possible through the County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management, in collaboration with the Hawai‘i State Department of Health, Council members Matt Kaneali‘i-Kleinfelder and Sue Lee Loy, and Lex Brodie’s, provides residents with a convenient, no-cost way to safely dispose of old tires, helping protect public health and the environment.

The type of tires that will be excepted are passenger car and light truck tires with rims. No commercial tires will be accepted. Donated tires must also be clean, free of water, dirt, and debris.

Business, government agency, non-profit agency, or farm wastes are prohibited by law.

For questions, contact Alex White, Recycling Specialist with the Department of Environmental Management, at (808) 961-8942 or by email at alexander.white@hawaiicounty.gov.
