The public is invited to help the County of Hawaiʻi increase disaster resilience by commenting on the Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The public comment period for the draft updated plan is open through March 26.

Input from the online survey will be used to finalize the document, which includes a countywide analysis of hazards and identifies mitigation actions to reduce the risk to residents from natural disasters. The plan is updated every five years.

Public participation began in August 2024 with public meetings to collect community concerns and priorities. Additional rounds of public meetings were held in November 2024 and February 2025.

A mitigation working group led by Civil Defense included representatives from County departments, other government partners, community organizations, and the private sector. This group of stakeholders served as an advisory group during the planning process.
