Myles Garrett (Cleveland Browns) at TIAA Bank Field Jacksonville Florida August 12^ 2022

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has signed a record-breaking, four-year contract extension that averages $40 million per year, including $123.5 million in guaranteed money– making Garrett the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero: “Myles Garrett is now the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Staying in Cleveland: The #Browns and Myles Garrett have agreed to terms on a new deal that includes $123 million guaranteed and averages $40 million per year, sources tell me and @RapSheet”

This contract extension comes shortly after Garrett requested a trade from the team; however, the Browns were adamant that their star defensive player remain on the roster. The Browns originally selected Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft; last season, the defensive end played in all 17 games last season, totaling 14 sacks, 47 tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery; his 102.5 sacks trails only the Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt (who has 108).
