South Kohala District Officer Landon Takenishi was recognized as Officer of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2024 by the Hawaiʻi Island Safety and Security Professionals Association (HISSPA).

On October 26, 2024, Officer Takenishi responded to the reported theft of two golf carts and tools in the Waikoloa area. He was in the process of analyzing evidence and interviewing witnesses when the active theft of a riding lawnmower was announced by Dispatch. Officer Takenishi proceeded to that call and through meticulous attention to detail was able to connect the suspect for that crime to the theft of the golf carts and tools report. He worked tirelessly to piece together the investigative puzzle. His hard work culminated in three suspects being arrested and charged for the crimes, including numerous felony offenses. The investigation also led to the recovery of the stolen property, illegal drugs, including 11.88 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and an unregistered shotgun—items that could have caused harm to our community had they remained in the wrong hands.

Throughout the investigation, Officer Takenishi displayed professionalism, resourcefulness, and a keen ability to work under pressure. His leadership during the case and his unwavering dedication to justice played a crucial role in dismantling a criminal operation and ensuring public safety.

This is the third time Officer Takenishi has been recognized by HISSPA. He was honored in Q3 2023 for his work in an assault investigation and most recently in Q2 2024 for his persistence and determination in keeping our roadways safe.
