During the week of April 21, through April 27, 2025, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 10 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 304 DUI arrests compared with 306 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.65 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 328 major crashes so far this year, compared with 322 major crashes during the same time last year, an increase of 1.9 percent.

To date, there have been 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 23.08 percent for fatal crashes and 26.67 percent for fatalities.
