Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of May 12

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of May 12 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

 

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

 

 

KURTISTOWN

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 9.7 to 10.2, in the vicinity of Huina Road and Ualani Road, on Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of a new waterline.

 

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 28.1 to 28.5, in the vicinity of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Crater Rim Drive, on Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for installation of a rumble strips.

  

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

 

  

PAHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 49.5 to 52.5, in the vicinity of Pahala Town, on Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

 

HONAUNAU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 97.2 to 104.7, in the vicinity of Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road, on Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for safety improvements.

CAPTAIN COOK 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 108 to 109.5, in the vicinity of Government Main Road and Greenwell Park, on Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.

HOLUALOA 

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 117 to 118, on Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing.

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

 

 

HILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 2.4, Waianuenue Avenue, on Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for arrow, lane lines, and crosswalk restriping.

 

HILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 2.7 to 5, between Kanoa Street to Kahoa Place, on Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

HILO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 3.2 to 3.3, in the vicinity of Hau Lane, on Thursday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for sign installation on the Hilo Plantation overpass.

PEPEEKEO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 11.4, Pepeekeo Plantation to Overpass, Wednesday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for sign installation.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 14 to 15, Old Mamalahoa Highway to Chin Chuck Road, Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.

HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 14.9, at the Chin Chuck pedestrian overpass, Wednesday, May 14, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. for sign installation.

LAPAHOEHOE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 24.2, at the Papaaloa pedestrian overpass, Wednesday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for sign installation.

LAPAHOEHOE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 24.2, at the Papaaloa overpass, Tuesday, May 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. for sign installation.

HONOKAA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction in the vicinity of mile post 42 to 43, Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.

PAHOA KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

 

PAHOA

Single lane closure on Pahoa Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 15 to 16.5, in the vicinity of Alaili Road, on Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

 

 

  MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

 

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving and striping.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, on Monday, May 12, to Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for paving and striping.

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

 

 

KAPAAU

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 9 to 10.5, on Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cleaning culverts and tree trimming.

 PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, May 12 through Friday, May 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping and installing raised pavement markers.
