The Hawaiʻi County Police Department is participating in an island-wide backpack drive for island keiki in need.

During the drive, new and unfilled backpacks may be dropped off at any Hawai‘i Island police station now through July 20, 2025.

Since 2008, the Hawaiʻi Police Department has been working in partnership with Hope Services.  The backpacks are distributed to children at women’s shelters, homeless shelters and transitional housing facilities around the Big Island. Backpacks are the most requested non-food item by charities in Hawaiʻi.
