Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow sustained a left toe injury during Sunday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The injury occurred with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter of Cincinnati’s home opener. Burrow was sacked by Jaguars defensive end Arik Armstead, and as more defenders joined the tackle, the Bengals’ franchise quarterback ended up at the bottom of the pile. He initially tried to limp toward the sideline but collapsed to the turf, prompting trainers to come onto the field.

After several minutes of evaluation inside the team’s medical tent, Burrow headed toward the locker room. He attempted to walk on his own but stopped about 15 yards from the tunnel, where he leaned on two trainers to make it the rest of the way. Footage captured by the Cincinnati Enquirer showed him entering the locker room without his left shoe.

Backup quarterback Jake Browning took over, finishing the first half and opening Cincinnati’s first drive of the third quarter. At halftime, Burrow was listed as questionable to return and remained in the locker room when play resumed.

Now in his sixth NFL season, Burrow has dealt with a series of significant injuries over his career, including season-ending damage to both his knee and wrist. He earned his second Comeback Player of the Year award in 2024 after appearing in all 17 games and leading the league in both passing yards and touchdowns—just one year after undergoing wrist surgery.
