The Hawai‘i County Police Department and the Hawai‘i Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL) expressed gratitude to the community for supporting the first-ever Kawamoto Swim Classic, held on September 27, 2025, at the Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo.

During the event, which aimed to introduce children to water safety and swimming, over 100 keiki participated in aquatic activities including swimming fundamentals, water polo, and diving basics, culminating in friendly swim races.

Key supporters included:

  • Council Member Dennis “Fresh” Onishi, who provided T-shirts and giveaways.
  • County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation, including Director Clayton Honma and Aquatics Director Alexandra Flores Murray.
  • USA Swimming, coaches Bill and Ann Imoto, and student swim team volunteers.

Due to its success, HI-PAL hopes to make it an annual tradition.
