Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of November 17

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of November 17, 2025. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

KANOELEHUA AVENUE/VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) —

1) HILO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 2.5 and 5, Ahona Place and Ikaika Lane, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mechanical mowing and mulching.

2) KEAAU

Single right-turn lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) in the northbound direction between mile post 5.6 and 6, before Macadamia Nut Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for pavement marking maintenance.

3) VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27.4 to 30, in the vicinity of Haunani Road and Kilauea Military Camp, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for HELCO installation of new poles and power lines.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

PAPA TO CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 96 to 113, in the vicinity of Kaohe Road and Trousseau Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strips, new striping, and pavement markers.

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

HAKALAU TO NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 16 to 21, in the vicinity of Leopolino Road and Kaihuiki Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing.

LAUPAHOEHOE TO OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 26 to 29, in the vicinity of Moonlight Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work.

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 55.5 to 56.1, in the vicinity of Cheseboro Lane and Kamamalu Street, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for pavement marking to maintain center lines and center turn lanes.

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 56.5 to 56.7, in the vicinity of Pukalani Road and Lindsey Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of new traffic signal.

 KAWAIHAE ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

KAWAIHAE

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 58 to 60, in the vicinity of Ko Uka Street and Ohina Street, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.

KAWAIHAE

Single lane closure on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 59 to 62, in the vicinity of Haleaha Place, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

 MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of new traffic signals.

SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of striping, lane lines, turn pockets and direction arrows.

PUAINAKO STREET (ROUTE 2000) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Monday, November 17 to Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for painting asphalt curbs and direction arrows.
