Hawaiʻi County will close the southbound lane of Banyan Drive between Banyan Way and Kamehameha Avenue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays beginning today.
The closure allows contractors to remove a single banyan tree deemed structurally unstable.
An arborist determined the tree poses a safety hazard due to structural defects and a partial canopy collapse. The work is expected to be completed by February 12.
This removal applies only to one tree; separate maintenance work for other trees on Banyan Drive is planned.
