On behalf of the County of Hawaii, we wish to thank all residents for your continued effort in preparing for the severe weather of flooding rains and damaging winds that the National Weather Service forecast for Hawaii Island later tonight and into tomorrow.

During this period,

It is essential that we stay off the roads, stay at home, and limit driving to essential travel ONLY.

Should you need a safe location to be at, the County has established Severe Weather Shelters at;

  • Waimea Community Center in Waimea
  • Hisaoka Gymnasium in North Kohala
  • Honoka`a Sports Complex Gym in Honoka`a
  • Papā`aloa Park Community Center in Papā`aloa

These Severe Weather Shelters will remain open until the threat has subsided.

Tomorrow, Monday, all non-essential County services and operations, including all park facilities and solid waste facilities will be closed.

Waipio Valley Access Road is closed to non-valley residents and farmers.

If you are a Hele-On Bus rider, please check with the Hele-on Bus website, if routes have been modified or cancelled for Monday.

All State offices, DOE schools, and the University of Hawaii will be closed Monday.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.
