The Boston Red Sox announced a six-player deal with the Milwaukee Brewers just ahead of spring training. The centerpiece of the trade is third baseman Caleb Durbin, who arrives in Boston after a standout rookie season, while left-hander Kyle Harrison headlines the return to Milwaukee.

Along with Durbin, the Red Sox also picked up infielder Andruw Monasterio, utility player Anthony Seigler, and a Competitive Balance Round B draft pick (67th overall). In exchange, Boston sent Harrison, infielder David Hamilton, and left-hander Shane Drohan to the Brewers.

The trade came together after Boston explored other options, including Houston’s Isaac Paredes, but talks ultimately centered on Durbin and Harrison. Harrison, 24, was once viewed as one of baseball’s top left-handed pitching prospects and had been available in trade discussions all winter due to Boston’s pitching depth. Since debuting in 2023, he owns a 9-9 record with a 4.39 ERA across nearly 195 major-league innings. Acquired earlier in the Rafael Devers deal, Harrison now gets a fresh start with a Brewers organization known for developing young arms.

Durbin, 25, emerged as Milwaukee’s primary third baseman last season and finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He posted a .256/.334/.387 line with 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, and solid defense, while also seeing time at second base and shortstop. His arrival helps Boston move on from its pursuit of Alex Bregman, who signed with the Chicago Cubs in free agency, and provides infield flexibility alongside young talent like Marcelo Mayer.

Milwaukee adds needed rotation depth with Harrison joining a group led by Brandon Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski, and Quinn Priester, while also competing with several young pitchers for innings. Drohan, 27, adds further pitching depth after a strong minor league season, and Hamilton brings speed and defensive reliability, though he slots in behind Platinum Glove second baseman Brice Turang.

From Boston’s side, Monasterio gives the club a versatile, high-energy option who hit .270/.319/.437 last season while playing all four infield positions and even logging time in left field. Seigler, a former first-round pick, provides organizational depth after splitting time between catcher and third base. The draft pick boosts Boston’s bonus pool by roughly $1.3 million.
