Hawaiʻi County Lane Closures: Week of May 25

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of May 25, 2026. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  In observance of Memorial Day, May 25 there will be no contraflow or lane closures unless otherwise permitted.All projects are weather permitting.

KANOELEHUA AVENUE/VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

HILO TO VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue to Volcano Road (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 0.0 to 36, in the vicinity of Banyan Drive, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for removal of existing striping and installation of new striping and pavement markers.

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 28 to 30, in the vicinity of Kilauea Military Camp, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for HECO to remove old poles and conductors.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

KEAAU TO KURTISTOWN

Roving lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 7 to 10, in the vicinity of Old Volcano Road and Hale Pule Loop, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m.to 4 p.m. cutting vegetation.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 68 to 69.5., in the vicinity of 68 Mile Road and Red Cinder Road, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. for cutting vegetation.

CAPTAIN COOK TO HOLUALOA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 109 to 119, in the vicinity of Kiloa Road and Lako St., on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for removal of existing striping and applying new striping and pavement markers.

 

KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

HOLUALOA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway through Kuakini Highway (Route 11), possible in either direction between mile post 118 to 119, in the vicinity of Judd Trail and Queen Kaahumanu Highway, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for cutting vegetation.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) 

WAINAKU TO PEPEEKEO

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19), possible in either direction between mile post 3.5 to 10, in the vicinity of Hau Street and Kulaimano Road, on to Saturday, May 23 to Sunday, May 24 for emergency road repairs. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.

NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19), possible in either direction between mile post 17.9 to 18.2, in the vicinity of Government Main Road, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work on Nanue Bridge.

NINOLE TO PAPAALOA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19), possible in either direction between mile post 20 to 24, in the vicinity of Papaaloa Avenue, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tree trimming.

OOKALA

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19), possible in either direction between mile post 29.2 to 32, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for work on Kaholo Stream Bridge.

KEAAU PAHOA ROAD/PAHOA KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) 

 

KEAAU

Single lane closure on Keaau Pahoa Road (Route 130), possible in either direction between mile post 0.0 to 21.8, in the vicinity of Mamalahoa Highway and Kaimui-Chain of Craters Road, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping and applying new striping and pavement markers.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) 

 

KALAOA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190), possible in either direction between mile post 30 to 33, in the vicinity of Huehue Ranch Road and Old Government Road, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m for tree trimming and cutting vegetation.

 

 KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250) 

 

KAPAAU 

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250), possible in either direction between mile post 3.7 to 5, on Monday, May 25 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for emergency repair work on the road due to the Kona Low.

KAPAAU

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250), possible in either direction between mile post 6.5 to 7.6, on Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will be repaving the roadway.
