For the first time since 1999, the New York Knicks are officially heading to the NBA Finals. The Knicks didn’t just win the Eastern Conference Finals; they absolutely dominated, capping off an incredible series by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 in Game 4 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to secure a clean four-game sweep.

Cleveland entered Game 4 fighting for survival, riding an early surge from star guard Donovan Mitchell, who finished with a team-high 31 points. But the Cavaliers’ resistance was short-lived against a relentless New York attack.

The definitive blow came late in the first quarter. Leading by just a handful of possession, the Knicks unleashed a devastating 20-0 run over a five-minute stretch. Driven by elite perimeter shooting and a massive spark from the second unit, the burst completely silenced the Cleveland crowd and put New York firmly in control.

By halftime, the Knicks held a commanding 68-49 lead. They refused to let up in the second half, eventually stretching the margin to as many as 45 points. The blowout allowed head coach Tom Thibodeau to rest his starters for virtually the entire fourth quarter, turning the final minutes into a celebration for the traveling New York faithful in attendance.

Five different players for NY scored in double figures — Karl-Anthony Towns had 19 points and 14 rebounds, while OG Anunoby provided his trademark two-way impact with 17 points; Landry Shamet provided a massive spark off the bench, hitting four three-pointers en route to a 16-point performance. Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges systematically controlled the tempo, contributing 15 points apiece.

The victory marks a historic milestone for a franchise that has spent the last quarter-century trying to replicate its past glory. This is New York’s first trip to the championship round in 27 years, leaving them just four wins away from capturing their first NBA title since 1973. Additionally, the victory extends New York’s current postseason winning streak to 11 games, placing this squad among the most dominant single-season playoff runs in modern NBA history.

The Knicks will now earn some crucial rest as they await the winner of the Western Conference Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. Because both Western contenders finished with a better regular-season record, New York will open the NBA Finals on the road.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled to tip off on June 3rd.
