The Hawaii Island Food Basket will distribute food at the Honoka’a Sports Complex and Skate Park tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 23, from 10 a.m. until noon, unless supplies run out sooner.

The final food distribution of the year will be next Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Volcano’s Cooper Center, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Executive Director Kristin Frost Albrecht says the Food Basket welcomes monetary donations, and there’s at www.hawaiifoodbasket.org on how to contribute.

She says they also are delighted to accept donations of home-grown fruits and vegetables, which may be brought to any of their distribution sites, or dropped at their locations at the headquarters location at 40 Holomua Street in Hilo, or at the Homes at Uluwini, 73-4161 Uluwini Place, right above Costco in Kona.

The Food Basket also has a “gleaners program,” in which volunteers will come out and pick the fruit or vegetables, including from trees too high for the homeowner to reach, and take the produce back to the Food Basket warehouses.

The Hawaii Food Basket also welcomes volunteers at their food distributions and at the warehouses.  Frost says the volunteers are critical to their nonprofit operation.   Anybody interested in volunteering may contact the Hawaii Food Basket:  www.hawaiifoodbasket.org, or call the Hilo location at 808-933-6030, or the Kona location at 808-322-1418
