Notice to those living in KAWAIHAE, KAWAIHAE HARBOR, HAPUNA BEACH RESORT, MAUNA KEA BEACH RESORT, PUAKŌ, MAUNA LANI RESORT; SOUTH KOHALA, HAWAI‘I

The Hawaii County Department of Water Supply is asking residents living or working in the above areas of South Kohala to conserve water by reducing water use by 10%.  The Department says they had an “unexpected equipment malfunction.”

Some of the water conservation measures the Department suggests:

  • Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes
  • Check faucets and pipes for leaks
  • Do not let water run when washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth
  • Reduce showering times
  • Use water-saving devices whenever possible
  • Use a broom instead of a water hose when gathering leaves and grass clippings

The Department says irrigation should only be done between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., when water demand is a bit lower.

There are other water-saving tips by clicking on the “Conservation” tab at www.hawaiidws.org.

Status updates will be on the DWS’ website, www.hawaiidws.org.

Please call (808) 887-3030 or (808) 961-8050 during normal business hours, (808) 961-8790 for after-hour emergencies, or email: dws@hawaiidws.org.
