Due to the ongoing Kona Low weather pattern affecting Hawaiʻi Island, a Public Report of Damage Assessment is now available to all Hawaiʻi County residents.

The online damage assessment form asks individuals and businesses to report damages to the County of Hawaiʻi Civil Defense Agency. This information will ensure that the County can send someone to assess the damage caused by the heavy rains, strong winds, and/or flooding.

In addition, the data collected will allow County officials to determine if jurisdiction qualifies for any state or federal assistance. Furthermore, all information provided will assist with hazard mitigation planning.

Completion of a Damage Assessment Survey does not constitute an application for assistance. Affected parties still need to file claims with their Insurance companies.

In a press release Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth said, “We would like to encourage anyone who has incurred damages to their property to fill out the damage assessment today.  The more information we receive, the better we can respond to the needs of each individual household. Each district experienced different weather conditions, and ensuring that we have an accurate understanding of what happened and where will help us to make the best decisions moving forward.”

For more information, contact the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense at (808) 935-0031 or (808) 935-0032.
