59-year-old Elias Anaya Padilla of Ocean View died following a single vehicle collision near the intersection of Sea Breeze Parkway and Bamboo Lane in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates in Kaʻū on Monday, September 19.

Responding officers determined that a black 1998 Toyota Tacoma was heading south out of a driveway when it struck Padilla, who had been engaged in a verbal dispute with the driver earlier.  Padilla, who was at one point either leaning into or holding onto the truck, was run over by the truck as the driver fled in an unknown direction.

Padilla was transported to Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The Hawaiʻi County Police Department is asking the public to help them locate the driver and pickup truck involved in the incident.  The driver has been identified as 67 year-old Alfredo Natividad of Ocean View.  He is described as being of Hispanic descent with black hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 9 inches in height and weighing 210 pounds. The license plate on the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck is known to be NNA 392.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a Negligent Homicide investigation and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Adam Roberg at (808) 326-4646, ext. 229 or via email at adam.roberg@hawaiicounty.gov.
