The Hawaii State Department of Health reports that as of noon on Saturday, April 4, there have been 351 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Hawaii.  This is 32 more than were reported on Friday.   DOH reports that two minors were among the 32 new cases.

Of all the cases, 184 are travel-related.  Community spread is identified as the cause in 20 cases so far.  The cause is unknown in 147 cases.

There has been a fourth fatality.  State DOH says the victim was an East O‘ahu adult male, over 65-years-old.  He passed today, and  based on preliminary information, had traveled and had been hospitalized.

State DOH confirms 22 cases in Hawaii County, 2 more from Friday.  Of those, 6 have been released from isolation.

State DOH asks everybody to practice social distancing (i.e., maintaining at least 6 ft distance or 2 arm’s length from others) as well as other important infection prevention measures (e.g., wash hands, clean surfaces regularly) to prevent widespread community transmission. Social distancing can reduce the spread of disease, prevent our healthcare system from being overburdened, and protect the most vulnerable members in our community from infection.

The Centers for Disease Control have asked people to wear masks if out in public where they are likely to be in contact with other people, as well as staying 6 feet away from others.  Since COVID-19 is known to be able to be spread by people with no symptoms, the CDC asks people to wear some kind of cloth face covering.  CDC asks that we leave the medical masks, both surgical and N95, to be used by medical professionals.

The Department of Health asks anybody who is sick to stay home, get rest, and drink plenty of fluids.  Those older or with underlying medical conditions or who get seriously ill should call their doctors for advice.
