The County of Hawaii is no longer allowing Atlas Recycling to pick up HI-5 recyclables at County Transfer Stations.   They have required Atlas to  remove their barrels which could be used even if Atlas personnel were not on site.  The County attributes these changes to COVID-19.

According to Atlas Recycling, they are still accepting HI-5 recyclables (glass, plastic bottles with the HI5 emblem) at their primary locations:

Kona, 74-592 Hale Makai Place (on the way to the police station and the Kealakehe Transfer Station), Monday through Friday 8 a.m. til 4 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. til 3 p.m.

Waimea, 64-1004 Mamalahoa Hwy,  Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9 am-4 p.m., Saturday: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hilo, 191 Waianuenue Ave., Monday-Friday: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hilo, 30 Maka’ala St., Monday-Friday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Locations now closed:

  • Keaau Transfer Station
  • Kealakehe Transfer Station
  • Keauhou Transfer Station
  • Waimea Transfer Station
  • Volcano Transfer Station
  • Waiohinu Transfer Station
  • Ocean View Transfer Station

Additionally, the county is not accepting any electronic waste, aka e-waste (computers, electronics, toner cartridges, etc.).
