The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Saturday morning, May 2, at 6:32 a.m. shows a continuing growth of confirmed COVID-19 cases around the world and in the U.S. but in Hawaii, the situation is becoming stable.

Worldwide cases:   3,386,519    Worldwide deaths:  239,448

U.S. cases:  1,107,815   U. S. deaths:  65,298

Hawaii cases:  619  (87 active cases)    Hawaii deaths:  16

Hawaii Island cases:  73 (13 active cases)    Hawaii Island deaths:  0

There was only one new case of COVID-19 reported on Friday by the State Department of Health, on O’ahu.

On O’ahu, some businesses are starting to reopen, with restrictions in place to limit personal contact.  Governor David Ige says he is working with all the Mayors to discuss reopening businesses as appropriate for the island, but the Mayors must consult with the Governor on any reopenings.

There were protests of small numbers of people on O’ahu and Hawaii Island by people who want all restrictions removed.  At least 30 states around the country are loosening some restrictions.

Lt. Governor Josh Green says the state’s COVID-19 curve is flat, but that people must continue physical distancing and mask-wearing to ensure the disease is controlled, with special precautions for those older or with impaired immunity and underlying conditions.
