The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Wednesday morning, July 1, at 7:34 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 10,538,577     Worldwide deaths:  512,331

U.S. cases: 2,658,324    U.S. deaths:  127,485

According to the Dashboard, the worldwide cases increased by 172,614 in the last 24 hours, and 5,165 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported.

According to the Dashboard, the United States has added 47,962  cases in the last 24 hours, and deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 992.  The case count is the highest reported.  Earlier in the pandemic, especially when New York was having its peaks, the country’s daily death toll hit as high as 1,900, but today’s 24-hour increase is the highest since June 10.

The United States has around 25% of all cases and deaths in the world.

U.S. heealth experts nationally and in the states note that the case load is dramatically increasing, especially throughout the south and west.  Several states — California, Arizona, Florida, and Texas among them — are pulling back on or pausing reopenings.

Hawaii now has 917 cumulative cases of COVID-19, with 736 released from isolation.   Hawaii Island, as of noon on Tuesday, had 87 cumulative cases with 3 active.  Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno said on Wednesday morning that one person is now hospitalized.

Hawaii is shown on national maps as being among the states with large percentage increases.  In May, there were 46 new cases. In June, there have been 275 new cases. There have been 18 deaths in our state, 12 on O’ahu, and 6 in Maui County.
