Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Stats: April 7-13

During the week of April 7, through April 13, 2025, Hawai`i Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2025, there have been 278 DUI arrests compared with 265 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.91 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 286 major crashes thus far in 2025, compared with 290 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 1.4 percent.

To date, there have been 9 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 30.8 percent for fatal crashes and 33.3 percent for fatalities.

So far in 2025, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
